GP_OVERFLOW(5)GP_OVERFLOW(5) NAME gp_overflow - Global Pointer (GP) overflow errors DESCRIPTION GOT overflow has occured if you receive messages from the linker saying GP-relative sections overflow by 0x??? bytes, GOT overflow, or GOT unreachable. In releases prior to MIPS 7.3, this man page, gp_overflow(5), described the underlying causes of and possible solutions for overflow in the GP-relative area in the linker. Changes made to the linker for the MIPS 7.3 release should make overflow errors occur much less frequently. Most of the information that had been included on this man page has been rendered irrelevant by MIPS 7.3 software changes. For unusual and extreme cases in which overflow occurs, see the dso(5) man page. Specifically, overflow is addressed in question 28, What should I do about Global Offset Table (GOT) overflow?. This man page will be removed in a future MIPS release. SEE ALSO CC(1), cc(1), f77(1), f90(1), ld(1) dso(5) MIPSpro N32 ABI Handbook
