KEYBOARD(1) KEYBOARD(1) NAME keyboard - customization panel for setting keyclick and key repeat SYNOPSIS /usr/sbin/keyboard DESCRIPTION keyboard allows users to set four keyboard parameters: key click sounds (on or off), key repeat (whether or not holding down a key causes a character to repeat), repeat speed (rate at which a depressed key will repeat characters), and repeat delay (amount of time to pass before a depressed key begins repeating characters). The panel can be launched from the toolchest (Desktop > Customize > Keyboard) or from a Unix shell command line. Like most other customization panels, the desktop panel has the ``runonce'' feature, meaning only one instance of the application will run at one time. Attempting to launch the application a second time will have the effect of deiconifying the application window or popping it to the top on the current desk. For more information about the entire IRIX Interactive Desktop environment and about the XUSERFILESEARCHPATH environment variable, see the IID(1) man page. FILES $HOME/.desktop-<hostname>/panelsession The keyboard panel does not read from any files. Keyboard settings selected by the user are changed into xset commands and written into the file $HOME/.desktop-<hostname>/panelsession where <hostname> is the result of running the hostname(1) command. When the user logs in, /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession.dt executes and reads these settings. SEE ALSO xset(1), IID(1), dtSounds(1), hostname(1) NOTES Key Click can be set not only on the keyboard panel but also on the dtSounds panel. The Key Click checkbox last clicked will have its setting honored and will be reflected in both panels the next time they're launched. Page 1
